week 1

FRIDAY: date night!
SATURDAY: block party! (bring potato salad)
SUNDAY: hamburgers & roasted cauliflower
MONDAY: ginger beef salad with miso vinaigrette
TUESDAY: fish tacos
WEDNESDAY: vegiterranean sandwich
THURSDAY: rebar almond burgers

not a bad way to start the week, amirite?

we had our second annual block party on saturday and i figured i’d bring something that didn’t have any fussy ingredients in it: it’s basically baby potatoes tossed in a shallot & grainy mustard vinaigrette.  i serve these all the time with hamburgers, salmon burgers, steak… super versatile. we actually had some leftover and they accompanied the burgers i made on sunday.  also roasted the cauliflower that i harvested FROM MY GARDEN! *new gardener alert* 🙋🏻

on monday, i tried a new recipe: ginger beef salad with miso vinaigrette.  it actually made a fair amount and we ended up eating it tuesday night too. on monday i followed the recipe and served it on butter lettuce and found the lettuce to be a little blah; i thought it needed a little more oomph, so on tuesday, i snipped some mesclun greens FROM MY GARDEN and we liked it this way better.  that said, if i make this again, i’ll be using sirloin; i think i’m done with flank steak, unless it calls for serious overnight marination. flank steak pretty much always has thick streak of gristle going down the centre of it and it’s too expensive for what you get.

aaaaaand, then it all went downhill from there. we ended up going out with friends to the PNE on wednesday night and enjoyed our annual feast of corn dogs, perogies, bbq’d pulled pork & ribs, deep fried snickers & soft serve ice cream. and then on thursday, we met some other friends for happy hour and it ran a bit late.  whoops. so yeah didn’t really stick to the meal plan this week but hey. life. i’ll make the rest next week.
